The Battle of Kurukshetra, commonly known as the Mahabharata War, is a notable event described in the Hindu mythology, the Mahabharata. This 18-day conflict took place on the plains of Kurukshetra in modern-day Haryana, India, and stemmed from a struggle for the Kuru kingdom’s throne.
Oil on canvas. Paint surface: H36.5 x W25 inches.
The war was fought between two factions of the Kuru dynasty: the five noble Pandavas, led by Yudhishthira, and the one hundred Kauravas, led by Duryodhana.
Beyond its mythical and or historical context, the battle serves as an allegory for human psychology and explores themes of dharma (duty/righteousness), morality, and the tragic consequences of war.
